Prosperity Preaching

Frankly, I am tired of having to listen to preachers who promise the world to their congregation. I’m tired of commercials selling prayer handkerchiefs and vials of magic anointing oil or anything in between. I’m tired of a certain southern preacher with a ton of followers telling people that God wants to give them all those material things that they think will make them happy. But I have a news flash for Osteen, if God wanted us to all have those things, then we would have them. I wish his father could talk to him now. It is true, that the Bible promises us many things, but what Osteen has failed to understand, is that sometimes those promises are fulfilled in the afterlife, not in the here and now. In fact, I think a shiny car, a big house, and a fast boat are exactly what God doesn’t want to give us. The church as a whole in America is fat, lazy, and materialistic. People who worship God for what they think he will give them are in serious trouble. The sad fact is that for many people in America, whether they apply the label Christian to themselves or not, money is their God.
